What is AMSA Advocates?

AMSA Advocates are selected medical students with knowledge, skills and attributes to advocate to politicians on a range of issues. The training will occur via online, flexible learning. A learning package to advocate on issues of refugees and asylum seekersÂ’ health is already underway. The modules will be delivered by academics, politicians or other experts in the area and will cover a spectrum of issues.

After completing the online course, advocates would be expected to feel confident to go into the community and advocate in their electorate and at events. Support and assistance will be offered by the AFRAM Team.

Desirable Qualities

The ideal candidate should be committed and motivated to learn and advocate on a particular or a range of issues that affect health. Prior involvement in advocacy or interest in issues like refugee and asylum seeker health or climate change or internship crisis is preferred, albeit not essential.

Application Process

Applications will be submitted online through the AFRAM website every year.

Applications will re-open in September 2015.
